HUMBAHASTIMES -- Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab said Algeria is planning to build a nuclear power plant to take advantage of the immense uranium assets in his country, local radio channel 1 reported Monday. (more)

"Algeria's uranium reserves are around 26,000 tons," Arkab was quoted as saying during his visit to the Nuclear Research Center in the capital Algiers.

"The government mulls developing the level of its capacity ahead of building the first power-generating nuclear plant," he added.

With four nuclear research centers for peaceful purposes , Algeria also considers investing its 26,000 tons of uranium reserves in the health and pharmaceutical sectors, the Algerian minister noted.

Algeria generates the majority of its power needs from its huge natural gas reserves which amount to 144 billion cubic meters, according to Arkab.

HUMBAHASTIMES -- Turkey has long been partly dependent on foreign automakers, but it's about to claim independence in a big way. TOGG, a consortium of Turkish companies, has unveiled an electric crossover SUV as the country's first fully homegrown car (outside of help from Italian design firm Pininfarina, that is). It won't be a modest undertaking, either. While the base options will provide a single 200HP rear-axle motor (good for 62MPH in 7.6 seconds) and a 186-mile range, you can spec it out to a 400HP dual-motor setup (0-62MPH in 4.8 seconds) and 300 miles of range. (more)

The machine will be quick enough to reach an 80 percent charge in 30 minutes on sufficiently fast (roughly 150kW) chargers.

It'll be technically savvy beyond the powerplant. TOGG is boasting of a "Slow Traffic Pilot" that will offer Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, with a platform that could upgrade to Level 3 autonomy "and beyond." The interior controls are nearly all-digital, including a Porsche-style passenger display and a claimed holographic assistant that will use eye tracking to provide information while keeping your eyes on the road. You can also expect a constant internet connection that will both link the SUV to the grid and deliver over-the-air updates.

TOGG hasn't outlined pricing, but expects the SUV to arrive in 2022 alongside the necessary charging infrastructure. There's also a concept sedan, so this likely won't be the only vehicle in the mix.

While the crossover is clearly meant to elicit national pride, it also draws attention to Turkey's income inequality. TurkStat estimated that the average yearly income in Turkey is equivalent to just $4,576, with people in Istanbul making a still-modest $6,102. Even if TOGG's vehicle is relatively affordable (we wouldn't count on it given the underlying tech), there's a good chance it'll be far less accessible than EVs are in the US. It could be a long, long while before there's an EV that many Turks can afford.
More
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9005515.post-87616775929956499852018-12-23T11:50:00.002+07:002018-12-23T12:01:27.386+07:00Banten and Lampung: 43 Killed, 600 Injured In Indonesia Tsunami Set Off By Volcanic Activity

HUMBAHASTIMES -- At least 43 people have been killed and nearly 600 injured in a tsunami in Indonesia that may have been caused by a volcano known as the "child" of the legendary Krakatoa, officials said Sunday.

Hundreds of buildings were destroyed by the wave, which hit beaches without warning in South Sumatra and the western tip of Java about 9.30 pm local time (1430 GMT) on Saturday, national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a statement.

At least 43 people died and 584 people were injured across three regions.

Authorities say the tsunami may have been triggered by an abnormal tidal surge due to a new moon and an underwater landslide following the eruption of Anak Krakatoa, which forms a small island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra.

"The combination caused a sudden tsunami that hit the coast," Nugroho said, but added that Indonesia's geological agency was working to ascertain exactly how it happened.

He added that the death toll would likely increase.

Video footage posted to social media by Nugroho showed panicked residents clutching flashlights and fleeing for higher ground.

Indonesian authorities initially claimed the wave was not a tsunami, but instead a tidal surge and urged the public not to panic.

Nugroho later apologised for the mistake on Twitter, saying because there was no earthquake it had been difficult to ascertain the cause of the incident early on.

"If there is an initial error we're sorry," he wrote.

'It went dark'

The wave swamped parts of the coast around the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra island, but was most damaging in Pandeglang district, on Java's western tip, where 33 people died and 491 people were injured.

Residents evacuate from damaged homes on Carita beach in Indonesia after the tsunami hit the area

At Carita beach, a popular day-tripping spot on the west coast of Java, 15-year-old Muhammad Bintang described a sudden surge of water that plunged the tourist spot into darkness.

"We arrived at 9 pm for our holiday and suddenly the water came -- it went dark, the electricity is off," he told AFP.

"It's messy outside and we still cannot access the road."

In Lampung province, on the other side of the strait, Lutfi Al Rasyid said he fled the beach in Kalianda city in fear for his life.

"I could not start my motorbike so I left it and I ran... I just prayed and ran as far as I could," the 23 year old told AFP

Although relatively rare, submarine volcanic eruptions can cause tsunamis due to the sudden displacement of water or slope failure, according to the International Tsunami Information Centre.

Anak Krakatoa is a small volcanic island that emerged from the ocean half a century after Krakatoa's deadly 1883 eruption.

When Krakatoa erupted in the 19th century, a jet of ash, stones and smoke shot more than 20 kilometres (12 miles) into the sky, plunging the region into darkness, and sparking a huge tsunami that was felt around the world.

The disaster killed more than 36,000 people.

Indonesia, one of the most disaster-prone nations on earth, straddles the so-called Pacific 'Ring of Fire', where tectonic plates collide and a large portion of the world's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur.

Most recently in the city of Palu on Sulawesi island a quake and tsunami killed thousands of people.

In 2004 a tsunami triggered by a magnitude 9.3 undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra in western Indonesia killed 220,000 people in countries around the Indian Ocean, including 168,000 in Indonesia. HUMBAHASTIMES -- Indonesian authorities turned to cutting-edge sonar technology on Friday as they search one of the world's deepest lakes for victims of a deadly ferry disaster.

Search teams hope the equipment, on loan from Indonesia's navy, will help find the overloaded boat which sank Monday on Lake Toba, a picturesque tourist destination in Sumatra.

Just three passengers have been confirmed dead so far, while 18 were rescued. But official estimates list 193 others — including children — as missing, which has raised fears that many bodies are trapped inside the ferry at the bottom of the lake.

The accident could be one of Indonesia's deadliest maritime disasters. Despite a massive search operation involving some 400 personnel, the vessel has still not been located after four days. Lake Toba, which fills the crater of a supervolcano that exploded in a massive eruption tens of thousands of years ago, is 500 metres (1,640 feet) deep in parts, hampering the search effort. It covers some 1,145 square kilometres (440 square miles).

Sonar technology uses sound pulses to detect and pinpoint underwater objects. The advanced equipment rolled out for the search effort is powerful enough to work at the lake floor, authorities said. "Our search target for the ship is at a depth of 500 metres," Budiawan, an official at Indonesia's search and rescue agency, told AFP. "(This equipment) can reach 600 metres."

A lack of progress in the hunt for victims has sparked anger among some of the hundreds holding vigil by the shore as they wait for news about missing loved ones. The traditional wooden boat could have been carrying five times the number of passengers it was built to hold, along with dozens of motorcycles, officials have said.

The vessel is believed to have been operating illegally with no manifest or passenger tickets and authorities have struggled to pinpoint the exact number on board when it went down in bad weather. They have relied on reports from survivors and the families of missing relatives who may have been on the doomed vessel. The captain and owner of the boat, Tua Sagala, along with two crew are being questioned by police.

Survivors have said the boat began shaking as it struggled to navigate strong winds and high waves about halfway into the 40-minute trip from an island in the middle of the lake to shore. Traditional vessels like the one in the Lake Toba disaster are often packed beyond capacity and lacking safety equipment.

Nearly 80 people died in a ferry accident on Lake Toba in 1997. More than 300 people are estimated to have drowned in 2009 when a ferry sank between Sulawesi and Borneo islands. HUMBAHASTIMES -- Indonesian aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI - IAe) and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) have launched a project to co-produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for military purposes, Indonesian newspaper The Jakarta Post said.

Both countries have been developing their indigenous UAV technologies to reduce dependency on manufacturers in Western countries, it said.

“We need an experienced firm like TAI, a firm from a Muslim country with advanced technology in the aviation industry,” The Jakarta Post quoted PTDI production director Arie Wibowo as saying. Several other firms were only interested in direct selling, not technology transfer, he said.

The newspaper also quoted TAI’s CEO Temel Kotil, who said he hoped the collaboration would result in the production of advanced UAVs.

Anka, a medium-altitude long-endurance drone produced by TAI, is already used by the Turkish Air Force. (source)

HUMBAHASTIMES -- National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will start operating chartered flights between Singapore and Silangit in Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Oct. 28 to attract more tourists to the area.

The new flights will establish Silangit Airport as an international terminal in the region. The flights are also aimed at making it easier for Singaporean tourists to access Lake Toba, one of Indonesia's main tourist attractions.

"We wanted to expand both domestic and international connectivity between Silangit and cities in the surrounding area," Garuda Indonesia president director Pahala Mansury said in a statement on Wednesday (18/10).

In addition to strengthening connectivity, the route has promising tourism and economic potential as it involves direct flights from Singapore, Southeast Asia's busiest hub.

Flights between Silangit and Singapore will take around 1,5 hours, with a frequency of three per week, using Bombardier CRJ-1000 aircraft with a seating capacity of about 100 passengers.

"We also express gratitude to the Ministry of Transportation, which has facilitated the national aviation industry through the improvement of the country's airport infrastructure, especially Silangit Airport. We are also grateful that the Ministry of Tourism has facilitated and fully supported our aviation network, especially for potential tourist destinations," Pahala said.

The new route forms part of a collaboration between Garuda Indonesia and the Toba Tourism Authority Board.

The route is expected boost tourist arrivals from Singapore. The number of foreign tourists from the city-state visiting Indonesia increased 0.6 percent to 945,008 between January and August this year, compared with the same period last year.

In March last year, the carrier operated once-daily direct chartered flights between Jakarta and Silangit flight, using Bombardier CRJ-1000 aircraft. (source)

HUMBAHASTIMES -- At the beginning of the month, the Turkish Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) Anka medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) UAV carried out its first armed strike against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). In the video released by the Turkish MoD, the Anka was armed with at least two Roketsan MAM-L air-to-surface missiles, designed for use by lightweight aircrafts.

According to quwa.org, this attack follows the successful weaponization of the TAI Anka UAV, which was announced by the Turkish MoD in April. Official photos presented have shown the Anka configured with MAM-L missiles and CİRİT laser-guided rockets as well as an electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) sensor pod.

Powered by a 155 hp engine, the TAI Anka has a payload of 200 kg and endurance of 24 hours. Its existing line-of-sight (LoS) communications system provides a range of 200 km.

The armed Anka is Turkey’s second armed drone, after the Kale-Baykar Bayraktar TB2. The Bayraktar TB2 was put into operation use in September at a strike, also against the PKK.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) are also slated to receive satellite-communications (SATCOM)-equipped Anka-S UAVs in 2017. Under a 2013 contract, 10 systems are to be delivered by 2018. Satellite connectivity will enable the TSK to use the Anka beyond its 200 km LoS range.
Along with the T129 ATAK and Hürkuş, the Anka is in TAI’s catalogue for domestic and overseas markets. HUMBAHASTIMES -- The delivery of Philippine Air Force’s two NC-212i short takeoff and landing (STOL) medium transport aircraft ordered from Indonesia state-owned PT Dirgantara Indonesia-Indonesian Aerospace may take place this third quarter.

The Philippine government entered a contract with the said Indonesian firm for the supply of two NC-212 aircraft early 2014. Delivery was expected late 2015.

MaxDefense Philippines said delivery may take place next month. MaxDefense said “PTDI failed to deliver the aircraft on time due to issues between PTDI and the approved autopilot supplier, who was bought by another company and was said to have not honored its commitments to PTDI, which led to the delay and blacklisting of PTDI.”

“Blacklisting from Philippine government procurement board [is] coming to an end in 3 days,” MaxDefense said.

However, according to a credible source of Update Philippines, delivery may take place in September.

CASA C-212 Aviocar is a turboprop-powered STOL medium transport aircraft designed and built by CASA in Spain. Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (CASA) became a subsidiary of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) in 1999 as EADS CASA, and in 2009 EADS CASA was absorbed by Airbus Military.

At present, C-212s are also being produced under licence by Indonesian Aerospace under NC-212 family. (source)

HUMBAHASTIMES -- Two men have been killed in a light aircraft crash off the Scottish coast.

The alarm was raised after the aircraft, which took off from Oban Airport at 11:30 on Thursday, failed to arrive at Carlisle Airport.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, which took place about two miles off the Kintyre coast near Skipness.

The bodies of two men and wreckage from the aircraft were recovered from the sea following an extensive search.

The search operation involved a coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick, as well as Police Scotland, Arran Lifeboat and the Tarbert and Campbeltown coastguard rescue teams.

Police Scotland said inquiries were continuing in an effort to establish the identities of the two men.

The force urged anyone with information about the crash to get in touch.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is also conducting an independent safety investigation. (source)

HUMBAHASTIMES -- The Indonesian government wants to export more locally manufactured weapons in an effort to boost the defense industry in the country.

In its latest measure, the government has explored the possibility of exporting bombs produced by a manufacturer in Malang, East Java, for Sukhoi jet fighters.

“If their products cannot be fully used domestically, they should export them. The problem is, exporting weapons is not purely a commercial matter. There are non-trade issues we must also settle,” said Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution during a visit to weapons manufacturer PT Sari Bahari‘s factory in Malang on Thursday.

Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara, Public Works and People’s Housing Minister Basoeki Hadimoeljono and East Java Governor Soekarwo were also present. During the visit, Darmin explored Sari Bahari’s business situation, including its production capacity.

With another weapons manufacturer, PT Dahana, PT Sari Bahari is now producing various primary defense systems (alutsista). They include the P-100 and P-250 bombs, which are for practice and to carry live warheads, the P-500 live bomb, 70 and 80 mm warheads for both smoke bombs and real explosives, the Petir missile target drone and the Rocketpod 7 tube launcher.

Sari Bahari president director Ricky Hendrik Egam said several parties were interested in buying the bombs produced by the company.

“They have conveyed their interest in buying bombs [for Sukhoi jet fighters],” said Ricky. He said Sari Bahari once exported hundreds of 70 mm smoke warheads to the Chilean Air Force.

Currently, Sari Bahari is focusing on producing up to 100 bombs per day to fulfil the needs of the Indonesian Air Force’s military exercises. Every year, Indonesian pilots conduct bombing exercises using thousands of P-100 bombs produced by Sari Bahari.

The bombs produced by the Malang company for the Sukhoi jet are sold at competitive prices and consist of 90 percent local components. (source)

HUMBAHASTIMES -- State-owned land system and weapons maker PT Pindad is set to launch a new Indonesian-made weapon system that combines the capabilities of a tank and ship, dubbed the "Tank Boat", at the Indo Defense Expo in Jakarta on Nov. 2 to 5.

The Defense Ministry's technology and defense industry director, Brig. Gen. Jan Pieter Ate, said the Tank Boat was a premier technology in the world today where it combined the land capabilities of a tank, as well as maneuverability in water as that of a ship, Thejakartapost.com reported.

"So it integrates combined combat maneuverability, and this is the first technology [of its kind] in the world. This is a product of Indonesia," Jan Pieter said on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

The Tank Boat was 18 meters in length and required 12 people to operate, he further said. It could be used for beach-side military operations as it also could camouflage itself among the mangroves, he said, adding that the Tank Boat was also able to maneuver in water to a depth of 90 meters.
More
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9005515.post-40839025503413900192016-07-30T06:29:00.001+07:002016-07-30T06:29:36.308+07:00Strong Indonesia Earnings Revive Recovery Hopes

HUMBAHASTIMES -- A string of better-than-expected earnings announcements by Indonesia's top companies is lifting hopes that the country is pulling out of the protracted growth funk that has disappointed markets.

Four of the top five listed companies by market capitalization posted double-digit year-on-year increases in net profit for the six months ended June. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the state-owned telecommunications company, saw the biggest increase, with profits surging 33% on stronger mobile data revenue.

"Broadly speaking, this is first [time] in the past five to six quarters that so far, we are seeing a better set of numbers," said Jahanzeb Naseer, head of Indonesia research at Credit Suisse.
HUMBAHASTIMES -- As public hysteria towards illegal immigrants, asylum seekers and foreign criminals grows, world governments rush through knee jerk legislations.

In 2005, the United Kingdom’s Immigration, Asylum, and Nationality Bill set the standards for cracking down on illegal immigration.

Advancements in technology for information sharing, stricter and more technologically advanced identity checks, and constant communication with overseas law enforcement officials enabled the UK to systematically strengthen their border patrol.

Additionally, the government decided to crack the whip on companies hiring illegal immigrants, including enacting stricter identity and visa checks, and instituting fines for any companies caught hiring illegal immigrants: up to £2,000 per illegal worker, as well as jail time and unlimited fines for those employers knowingly hiring illegal immigrants.
HUMBAHASTIMES -- Madagascar, the large island off the east coast of Africa known for its biodiversity, may have been colonized by as few as 30 women and a small group of men as recently as 1,200 years ago, according to a new study. Researchers found that inhabitants share genes with people in Indonesia, the archipelago 3,500 miles away.

The Madagascar colonization is one of the least understood episodes in human history, the authors wrote. Despite their proximity to Africa, the Madagascan people are racially, linguistically -- and now genetically -- closely related to Indonesians and Malays.

The unusual thing about this island is Madagascar is a long way away from Indonesia, Murray Cox, lead researcher and senior lecturer at Massey University in New Zealand, told LiveScience. It was also settled very recently; by this time, most of the world had already been settled. We are talking about an entire culture being translocated across the Indian Ocean.

Researchers looked at the genes of 3,000 Indonesians and 300 Madagascans and found clear similarities in the DNA of mitochondria, the power plant of cells, passed down solely by mothers. Computers simulated different founding populations at different times until a result matched real-world observations.

Approximately 28 Indonesian women and two African women colonized Madagascar around 800 A.D., the computer simulation showed. Researchers were unable to estimate how many men would have been around when the island was first colonized.

We know that both Madagascan men and women come from Indonesia, we just don't know exactly how many men, Cox told LiveScience. Our evidence suggests it's also a small number.

The tinyl number of settlers means the colonization was most likely an accident, according to the researchers. It's possible people ended up on the remote island after their ship capsized, researchers said. Historical evidence gives the shipwreck theory credibility.

During World War II, wreckage from ships destroyed off the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra routinely washed up on the shores of Madagascar, despite the great distance. In one case, a survivor washed up in a lifeboat.

Without further evidence, it's impossible to pinpoint exactly how Madagascar was colonized, the researchers conclude. However, understanding the timeframe of when settlers first arrived is an important first step toward figuring out the rest.

HUMBAHAS -- India will launch Indonesia's first domestically-made multi-spectral remote sensing satellite Lapan A2/Orari on September 27 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, The Jakarta Post reported.

It is a successor to Lapan A1/Tubsat that was launched in India in 2007. This was made by the experts from National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional, Lapan) and Technical University Berlin (TUB) Germany.

Weighing 78 kilograms, Lapan A2/Orari carries an Automatic Identification System (AIS) to identify the ships in the waters of Indonesia and a video camera with a range three times wider than the Lapan-Tubsat. It will function as a tool to monitor land usage, ship movements, sea resources and fishing explorations.

Besides this, it is also equipped with an automatic packet reporting system on board to aid disaster mitigation by monitoring floods, changes in the sea level as well as movements of the population.

Lapan A2/Orari satellite will orbit the Earth along the equator with an altitude of 650 km and will travel at 7.5 km per second - enabling it to circle 14 times a day. HUMBAHAS -- President Joko Widodo has ordered to activate command posts to control and tackle smoke problems in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

"The president has ordered the opening of four command posts in Kalimantan and four in Sumatra," Chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Syamsul Maarif stated here on Friday after attending a limited cabinet meeting led by the president at the State Palace.

He noted that the president is giving serious attention to the problem and has also planned to personally inspect the on-field situation.

Syamsul remarked that four measures to be taken to deal with the smoke arising from bush fires, include extinguishing the fires as early as possible, ensuring law enforcement, undertaking health efforts, and informing the public to not set fire for land-clearing activities.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry and Environment Bambang Hendroyono pointed out that, as the field coordinator, his office would work with all concerned parties to immediately overcome the smoke problem.

He stated that a meeting with the military and the police would be held on Saturday to deal with the situation.

Bambang noted that 156 fires had been detected in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

He hoped the smoke problem would be overcome this month.

Activities at the airport in Jambi, Sumatra, had been brought to a standstill, with no flight operations on Friday due to the thick smog covering the area.

The airport's chief operator, Parolan Simanjuntak, stated that until late afternoon, 12 flights had been cancelled, and no aircraft had landed at the Sulthan Thaha Airport. He added that only one Garuda flight had departed to Jakarta in the morning after an overnight halt at the airport.

He emphasized that only one aircraft had landed at the airport at 8:30 p.m. local time on Thursday. (ant)

President-elect Joko Widodo needs to retain the Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry in his cabinet structure by considering its significance in building and empowering the people's economy, stated an economist.

"By considering this ministry's contribution in the development of the people's economy, Indonesia's new government needs to maintain its existence and strengthen its authority," Padjadjaran State University's economist, Kodrat Wibowo, noted here on Monday.

Wibowo pointed out that the ministry is required as several Indonesians running cooperatives and small and medium enterprises have yet to gain easy access to the banking sector to enable them to expand their businesses.

"Therefore, our cooperatives and small and medium enterprises still need the government's support," he remarked, adding that the difficulties in getting access to the banking sector were faced by almost all people running small and medium enterprises in the country.

Limited access to the banking sector was caused by various factors such as lack of information and poor understanding on the ways to make a bankable budget planning or loan proposal, he stressed.

Besides maintaining its existence in Joko Widodo's cabinet, strengthening the ministry's authority was also important by making it the leading sector for empowering and developing cooperatives and small- and medium-scale companies in Indonesia, Wibowo asserted.

During the current government's era, the Industry Ministry and Trade Ministry, for instance, had formulated their own programs for empowering and revitalizing small industries and traditional markets.

This overlapping authority can be avoided by enabling the Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry to become the leading sector for developing and empowering cooperatives and small and medium enterprises in the country, he stated.

Meanwhile, former chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Hasyim Muzadi has warned that the presence of political party officials appointed as ministers in President-elect Joko Widodo's cabinet cannot be overlooked.

Speaking to journalists after attending a conference at Al Hikam Islamic Boarding School here on Sunday, he noted that ignoring the presence of political party officials in the cabinet will create problems for the government in dealing with the parliament.

Hasyim Muzadi believed that it will not be a problem if the next cabinet structure was "big" as long as those appointed were professional and capable people.

Joko Widodo will officially take over as president of Indonesia on October 20, 2014. (antara)

The Indonesian National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Overseas (BNP2TKI) has warned Indonesian workers abroad, particularly those working in the Middle East, against possible contraction of Ebola virus.

"We consider the Ebola virus issue to be a serious problem that needs a serious response, as well. We have to take anticipatory steps in order to prevent Indonesian migrant workers abroad from being infected with the disease," BNP2TKI Public Relations Head Haryanto said.

He noted that the disease, detected for the first time in 1976 and known as Ebola dengue fever, was a deadly disease for its victims. The virus was first detected in remote areas in Central and Western African countries.

"Ebola is communicated through wild animals and then spread to human being and then from man to man," he said.

Haryanto said however that no Indonesian workers in the Middle East have been infected with the Ebola virus, but the BNP2TKI must continue monitoring the spread of the virus.

"We have to paid special attention to this issue," Haryanto said. He added that since the emergence of the Ebola virus, which had drawn the world's attention, the BNP2TKI has worked hand in hand with the Health Ministry to provide information about the virus before Indonesian migrant workers leave for overseas jobs.

The virus infection now is breaking out in the three African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, where more than 2,000 people have been infected, of whom more than 1,000 have died.

He said a patient who has contracted the virus could suffer from fever, throat ache, vomiting, diarrhea, reddish skin, muscle pain, headache, and damage to kidneys and livers.

"We ask Indonesian migrant workers to see this issue as a serious matter, so that they would remain vigilant," the BNP2TKI head said.

In the meantime, Health Minister Nafsiah Mboi said Indonesia is ready to deal with the much feared epidemic Ebola.

At least 100 hospitals have been prepared in all provinces to take care of people suspected of being infected with the disease, Nafsiah said here on Tuesday.

All epidemics suspects will be referred to the 100 hospitals. Treatment against Ebola is not different from treatment against other viruses," she said.

The 100 hospitals were prepared to deal with epidemics when the first case of bird flue was found in the country in 2008, she said.

With assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Indonesian government has prepared a system to deal with epidemics in line with the International Health Regulation (IHR).

"We have made ready a system , according to the IHR including controlling , detection and medication and standard actions," she said.

Among the hospitals are RS Persahabatan and RS Penyakit Infeksi Sulianti Saroso in Jakarta.

Earlier the Indonesian health minister said that the possibility was little of Ebola entering Indonesia as the country is far away from the three countries hardest hit -- Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

In addition, WHO and its member countries have imposed strict restriction and control of travels to the three countries.
