Opium Network: A Briton Arrested in Surabaya
Surabaya (Antara News) - A British national, Keny Long (47), who is a teacher of English at a school in Surabaya was arrested by police for illegal possession of 15.9 grams of opium.
"Keny Long was arrested when we are conducting a raid against motorists in Dinoyo area on Sunday" (Sept 9), Chief of the Anti Drug Police Unit of Surabaya Adjunct Senior Commissioner Abi Darrin said here on Sunday.
The man was arrested by police in Tegalsari, South Surabaya, when he was riding on a motorcycle with his Indonesian wife, Sri Handyani (23).
"In the operation, the police asked motorcyclists for their papers, including driving license, but the police started to suspect Keny`s strange behavior of trying to avoid the operation," he said.
After searching him, the police found 15.9 grams of dried opium in one of Keny`s pockets. Keny and his wife rented a house in Griya Pesona Asri housing complex, Block D, Rungkut area in Surabaya.
Keny told the police he bought the opium for his wife who had become addicted in the past three years, while the police is still after the seller," he said.
He also disclosed that the police has established coordination with the British Consulate General in Surabaya following the arrest of the Briton in a drug-related case.
